Planting Season Begins at the Southbridge Community Gardens
Southbridge, MA, May 7, 2012 -- The Town of Southbridge is accepting applications to reserve garden plots at the community gardens in the downtown area through June 1, 2012.
The plots are free to Southbridge residents. They are especially suited for people living in multi-family homes with limited yard space for a garden. Residents can plant flowers, fruits and vegetables.
The Town provides 4’ x 8’ plots to gardeners on a seasonal basis. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The plots are available from May 26, 2012, to October 31, 2012. Residents are responsible for planting and maintaining their individual plot and all are responsible for keeping the community garden clean in accordance with the guidelines. The community gardens are located on Chestnut Street (allocated to the Cops N Kids program), Cross Street and Worcester Street, which is handicap accessible. The Town in partnership with the Center of Hope provides a planter box, soil, water barrel and compost bin. Residents are encouraged to sign up soon to catch the planting season. Registration ends June 1, 2012. Reserve your plot today.
